| Directions |
| From the M62 Take the exit at Juntion 19 and follow the
Heywood signs taking you along Middleton Road. At the small roundabout
go straight ahead and pass the fire station on your right. The next
roundabout is a "Mini" one and here you can either go staight
ahead until you have to turn right onto Manchester Road or turn left
into Coronation Avenue and then right at the end onto Manchester Road.
This last option is often a little easier to negotiate. Once on Manchester Road pass Green Lane (signed for the East Lancs Railway) and continue down hill towards the town centre, looking out for the large Ford Garage on your left (Kempsters). Once past the Ford Garage the road bends to the left and you will see the Market on your right. At this point the Civic Centre is now on your left. From Rochdale. There are two routes that will take you to Heywood from Rochdale. First, the A58 from the "Tesco" traffic lights. Follow the A58 until you pass through the traffic lights at Green Lane and are approaching the town centre. Watch out for the Market Hall on your left and turn left immediately before the Market. Up the hill for a 100 metres and the Civic Hall is facing you on the other side of the A6046. Second, the B6222 from College Road of St Mary's Gate. Follow the B6222 heading towards the town of Bury and keep a look out for Queens Road on your left. Starting from Rochdale College this is at the 4th set of traffic lights and here you turn left into Queens Road. Follow Queens Road over the river bridge and passing the park on your left. At the very end of Queens Road turn left onto the A58 and then first right at the Market Hall. Up the hill for 100 Metres The Civic Center is now ahead of you across the A6046. From Bury and The M66. From the town of Bury follow the signs for Heywood (A58) and the signs for the Motorway M66. Pass under the M66 at Junction 2 (or exit M66 here) and continue on the A58 towards Heywood. You will be forced into a one way system when you reach the town and will pass Morrisons supermarket and Dunnes store on your left. Once past these shops you will encounter a "Mini" roundabout and need to turn right here (Signed for Rochdale and Manchester) After turning right at the "Mini" roundabout you have a choice of right or left after about 50 meters. Take the left option but keep in the outside lane after the left turn following the Manchester sign. Go through the traffic lights and you will see the Library on your Right and immediately after the Libary is the Civic Center again on your right. From ELR Heywood Station. On leaving the platform make your way through the car park and having passed through the gates continue directly ahead until you pass the Navigation Inn on your right. You have now reached Manchester Street and should turn right heading down hill towards the town centre. Continue down Manchester Street and cross over the road when you can so that the road is now on your right hand side. After approximately 400 metres from the Navigation Inn you will see the large "Ford" garage on your left. The main road you are following will curve to the left and the Civic Centre is on your left as you round this curve in the road. By Bus. There are 2 major bus routes through Heywood town centre and are as follows:- From Manchester, or Middleton and any points in between you need to catch the No 163 bus. It does deviate a little bit on leaving Middleton as it takes a tour of Langley housing estate but it eventualy stops outside Heywood Library which is next to the Civic Centre. From Rochdale, the No 471 bus is a direct route and will have you at the stop outside Heywood Library about 15 minutes after leaving the Rochdale terminus. From Bury, You have a choice of either the No 163 or the No 471 buses from Bury to Heywood. The No 471 is the most direct route and the journey time is around 15 minutes from Bury Interchange to the stop past Dunnes Strores. (Note that the 471 forks left just before the library on the Bury to Rochdale leg so you will need to alight here or at the stop past the market and then walk back 200 metres) The 163 takes a slight deviation to provide service to the Darn Hill housing estate and the jouney time is a little longer, being around 20-25 minutes but does stop directly outside the library next to the Civic Centre. |
| Parking |
| At the time of writing there is plenty of
free parking in Heywood. The Civic Centre
has a reasonable car park adjacent to it and there is also parking at
the Market Hall across the road opposite. If these are full then you may
find some room on the roads nearby and on Hind Hill Street. Failing this
there is a very large car park between "Morrisons" and "Dunnes"
which is within easy walking distance of the Civic Centre. Note:- The car park at the Market Hall has a 2 Hour limit. All other parking areas are still unlimited and free. |
