The above map shows a small section of the Rochdale town centre. The
front of Champness Hall is located on Drake Street between Nelson Street
and Mason Street. However there is no parking on Drake Street and it is
necessary to come round to the back of the building where parking is
available either in Church Lane or in the courtyard at the back of
Champness hall.
The red lines indicate the routes to approach the rear of the building
by car. Perhaps the easiest way if you are not familiar with Rochdale is
to find the Town Hall and the roundabout at the end of the Esplanade.
Once you have got to this roundabout drive into what appears to be the
large car park at the side and rear of the Town hall. Keep to the left
hand side of this car park (Packer Street on the map) and then turn left
at the rear of it into Nelson Street and up the cobbled hill to cross
over Church Lane. Having crossed Church Lane you will then find the
entry into the rear of Champness Hall on your right. (you cannot proceed
beyond this entrance as Nelson Street is pedestrian only beyond it)
Go in through the rear doors and up the stairs to the top floor where
you will find the Heywood Model Railway Group.
